What is an Esports Circuit?
An esports circuit (also called a season or league) is a series of tournaments that are connected through a points system. Teams earn points based on their placement in each tournament, and the top teams qualify for a championship event.
How Points Work
Each tournament in the circuit awards points based on final placement. A typical point distribution might look like:
- 1st place: 100 points
- 2nd place: 75 points
- 3rd-4th place: 50 points
- 5th-8th place: 25 points
Tournament Tiers
Not all tournaments in a circuit are equal. Higher-tier events offer more points:
- Major - Full points (1.0x multiplier). The biggest events in the circuit.
- Minor - 75% points (0.75x). Mid-tier events with significant competition.
- Open - 50% points (0.5x). Entry-level events open to all teams.
Season Structure
A typical circuit runs for 2-4 months and includes 4-8 tournaments. The season culminates in a championship event where the top teams from the standings compete for the overall title.
Why Circuits Matter
Circuits provide long-term motivation for competitive teams. Instead of one-off tournaments, teams have a reason to compete consistently. It builds rivalries, storylines, and community engagement over time.
